Pure tone audiometry measures the quietest sound you can hear across a range of pitches, one ear at a time. You wear headphones in a quiet room and press a button whenever you hear a tone.
It is ordered for hearing difficulty, ringing in the ears, after ear infections, and for many employment and fitness certificates. The result is drawn as an audiogram, with each ear plotted separately.

- Do the audiogram before your shift
- Loud noise causes a temporary threshold shift that can take most of a day to settle, so an audiogram done straight after a shift on the shop floor reads worse than your actual hearing. If the test is for an employment or fitness certificate, stay away from machinery and earphones for 14 to 16 hours first.
- The test needs a quiet room
- Pure tone audiometry measures the softest sound you can hear, and a normal ear picks up tones at 0 to 10 decibels. Traffic and waiting room noise sit well above that and push every threshold up without anyone noticing. A test run in a busy room can make normal hearing look mildly reduced.
- Air conduction and bone conduction
- The test takes about 30 minutes because each ear is checked separately at 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 and 8000 Hz, first by air conduction and then by bone conduction. The gap between those two lines is what separates a conductive loss, which is often treatable, from a nerve loss.
- Tell us if the ear is blocked
- A plug of wax, a heavy cold or fluid behind the eardrum will lift your thresholds on the day, and the audiogram will then record a loss you do not have. Say so before the test starts. If the ear is blocked it is better to come back after it has cleared.
- ₹1800, audiogram and report included
- That covers the test and the plotted audiogram for both ears, signed and sent to your WhatsApp. Nothing is added for the report. If a company or a licensing office asks for a copy, it is the same document you are given. The price list is public.
