The forearm carries the radius and the ulna running side by side between the elbow and the wrist. Because they lie one behind the other in a side picture, both views are needed to see each bone along its whole length. The films include the elbow and wrist ends, since a break in one bone often comes with a shift at one of those joints.

Doctors order it for a suspected broken forearm after a fall, pain or deformity in the middle of the arm, and to check how a healing fracture is setting.
