A CT of the abdomen shows the liver, pancreas, kidneys, bowel and the surrounding structures in far more detail than an ultrasound, and it is not blocked by gas or body habitus.
Plain (₹5,500) is done without any injection. With contrast (₹7,500) adds an iodine dye through a vein, which makes blood vessels and many abnormalities stand out.
If contrast is planned, your doctor will usually want a recent creatinine result first, because the dye is cleared by the kidneys. A CT KUB for stones (₹5,000) is done plain — no injection needed.

- Creatinine before the contrast goes in
- Contrast dye leaves the body through the kidneys, so a recent creatinine is wanted before it is given. The kidney function test is run in this building, usually before your scan slot, so the blood and the CT are not in two different places.
- A stone question may not need contrast
- If what your doctor is chasing is a stone, the plain CT KUB answers it and needs no injection. Stones show up white on CT without any dye. We read the referral before booking, so contrast is not given for a study that does not need it.
- Four to six hours without food
- The scan needs four to six hours on an empty stomach. Food and gas in the bowel loops sit right over the pancreas and make the wall of the gut hard to judge, and the study then has to be repeated. You are told the timing when the appointment is fixed, not when you arrive.
- A warm feeling and a metallic taste
- The contrast goes in through a cannula in the arm and takes about half a minute. It leaves a warm feeling through the body and a metallic taste that lasts a few seconds. Neither of those means anything has gone wrong, and both settle on their own.
- ₹5500 plain, ₹7500 with contrast
- ₹5500 for the plain study and ₹7500 with contrast. CT KUB for stones is ₹5000, and the kidney function test asked for before a contrast scan is ₹600. Nothing extra for the report or for sending it to your WhatsApp. Every price is published on the price list.
