Ultrasound is the standard way to follow a pregnancy because it uses sound, not radiation.
Different scans are done at different points, and your obstetrician will tell you which one and when:
- Early pregnancy scan (₹1,200) — confirms the pregnancy, its location and the heartbeat.
- NT scan (₹1,500) — around 11 to 13 weeks, part of first-trimester screening.
- TIFFA / anomaly scan (₹2,000) — around 18 to 22 weeks, a detailed look at the baby’s anatomy.
- Growth scan (₹1,500) — later in pregnancy, checking size and fluid.
- Growth scan with fetal Doppler (₹3,000) — adds blood flow in the cord and vessels.
Our consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist sees patients at the clinic, so a scan and a consultation can happen in the same visit.
Sex determination is illegal in India under the PCPNDT Act, and is not done here under any circumstances.

- Sex determination is not done here
- Under the PCPNDT Act it is illegal for any centre to tell you the sex of the baby, and it is not done here at any stage of pregnancy. Please do not ask the sonologist during the scan. It puts the sonologist in a difficult position and the answer will be the same either way.
- The obstetrician sees patients in this building
- Dr Swetha Bavini, DNB OBG, consults here, so the scan and the discussion of it can happen in one visit instead of on two different days. If an image needs a repeat view or a finding needs explaining, it is dealt with the same day. See our consultants.
- NT is done between 11 and 13 weeks 6 days
- The nuchal translucency scan can only be done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days, and the anomaly scan is done at about 18 to 20 weeks. If you come after the window has passed, that measurement cannot be taken at all. The date you are next due is written on the report.
- The anomaly scan is a structure by structure check
- TIFFA covers the brain, spine, heart chambers, kidneys, stomach, limbs, cord and placenta, along with the liquor. It takes longer than a growth scan. If the baby is lying awkwardly you may be asked to walk about for ten minutes and come back for the remaining views.
- What each pregnancy scan costs
- ₹1200 for an early pregnancy scan, ₹1500 for NT, ₹2000 for the anomaly scan, ₹1500 for a growth scan and ₹3000 for growth with fetal Doppler. The report and the WhatsApp copy are included in that. The full price list is public.
