The picture is centred on the last dorsal and the first lumbar vertebra, the point where a stiff part of the spine meets a mobile one. That join takes the force in a fall from a height or a heavy landing on the feet, so it is a common place for a vertebra to crack or squash down. One picture is taken from the front, the other from the side.
