What this test checksఈ పరీక్ష దేని కోసం
The liver processes almost everything you eat, drink and take as medicine. This test measures the substances it makes and the enzymes it releases when its cells are irritated.
Doctors order it for yellowing of the eyes or skin, stomach pain, long-term medication, or as part of a full checkup.

- Light drops the bilirubin reading
- Bilirubin breaks down in light. A tube left on a counter near a window for an hour reads lower than the patient's real level, and jaundice is usually why the test was ordered in the first place. Our tubes are spun and kept covered until they go on the analyser.
- A haemolysed sample is redrawn, not reported
- If red cells break during the draw, their contents leak into the serum and push SGOT and SGPT up. The report then looks like liver damage that is not there. When the separated serum comes out pink, we call you back for a fresh draw rather than sign the higher number.
- We wait 30 minutes for the tube to clot
- A gold serum tube needs about 30 minutes to clot fully. Spun before that, fibrin carries over and the enzyme readings wander. Left standing for hours afterwards, other values drift instead. The tube is timed from the draw, not from when the centrifuge is free.
- You do not need to fast for an LFT
- People routinely skip breakfast before a liver test for no reason. Fasting only applies if the same draw also includes a lipid profile or a fasting sugar, where 9 to 12 hours is needed. Tell the counter what else is being tested and we will say whether to come fasting.
- ₹500 for the whole panel
- The bilirubin fractions and the enzymes are not billed one by one, and there is no separate fee for the report or for sending it to your WhatsApp. All 286 items we price are on the public price list.
