The thyroid is a small gland in your neck. It sets the speed your body works at — how you use energy, how you sleep, your weight and your mood.
Doctors order this test for tiredness that does not go away, weight change without a reason, hair fall, feeling cold, irregular periods, or during pregnancy. TSH is usually the number your doctor looks at first.

- TSH changes through the day
- TSH is highest at night and lowest in the late afternoon, so the same person can read a little differently at 8 am and at 4 pm. If this is a repeat to check a dose, come at about the hour you came last time, so the two numbers can be compared properly.
- No fasting needed for T3, T4 or TSH
- People put off a thyroid test thinking it needs an empty stomach. It does not, so eat as usual. If you are on thyroxine, come before you take the morning tablet, because a dose swallowed an hour or two earlier lifts the T4 reading. It is 3 ml of blood in a gold serum tube, and the report is the same day.
- In pregnancy the TSH range is lower
- The normal band for TSH in pregnancy sits below the general adult range, and a value that looks unremarkable on a standard report can be too high for a first trimester. Our gynaecologist sees antenatal patients in this building, so a borderline figure can be asked about the same visit.
- The same method for every repeat
- Different analysers give slightly different TSH values, so a reading from one laboratory and a reading from another are not strictly comparable. A thyroxine dose is followed for months at a time, and running the repeats on the same analyser here keeps the trend readable.
- ₹500 for all three, ₹1100 for the free hormones
- T3, T4 and TSH together are ₹500. If your doctor wants free T3, free T4 and TSH instead, that panel is ₹1100. Both figures are in the public price list, and neither the report nor the WhatsApp copy is charged separately.
