Vitamin D lets your body use the calcium you eat. Without enough of it, bones ache, muscles feel weak and fractures heal slowly.
Deficiency is common in Hyderabad even with the sun we get, because most of the day is spent indoors. Doctors order it for body pain, back pain, tiredness and repeated fractures.

- Sun in Hyderabad is not enough on its own
- Low readings turn up in people who are outdoors most of the day, not only in office staff. Sun through a window or a windscreen does nothing for vitamin D, and most skin stays covered anyway. If there is body pain and tiredness, get the level checked instead of assuming it is fine.

- 25-OH D moves slowly. If you have begun a weekly 60,000 IU course, a level checked after two weeks tells you very little, while about three months gives a settled figure. Tell the technician the start date and the dose so your doctor can read the result against it.
