About this
What it showsఈ పరీక్ష దేని కోసం
The paranasal sinuses are hollow pockets in the cheek bones, the forehead and behind the nose. The scan shows whether they are clear or filled with thickened lining, fluid or polyps, and how the drainage channels and the nasal septum are shaped. Axial slices cut across the head and coronal slices run front to back, so the two sets together map every sinus.
Doctors order it for a long-standing blocked nose, facial pain or headache, repeated sinus infection, loss of smell, discharge that will not clear, and before sinus surgery.
