The nasal bones are thin and sit right at the front of the face, so they are filmed at close range and from both sides to keep them from being hidden by the rest of the skull. The films show the outline of each bone and any break or shift in its line. Soft tissue swelling over the bridge also appears.

Doctors order it after a blow to the nose, for a nose that looks bent after injury, or for bleeding and swelling following a fall.
