Rather than a single reading, this watches how quickly the body clears a known load of sugar, which brings out problems a fasting value alone can miss. You stay at the centre for the full two hours and give a sample at each point, without eating, smoking or moving about much in between. The same test screens for diabetes in pregnancy.
Doctors order it for suspected diabetes, borderline fasting sugars, screening in pregnancy and unexplained low sugar episodes.
