The red cell figures, haemoglobin among them, show whether there is anaemia and give a first hint about what kind. The white cell total and its breakdown shift in different infections and in some blood disorders. The platelet count relates to clotting, and the morphology comments describe how the cells actually look under the microscope.
Doctors order it for fever, tiredness or unexplained bruising, and as part of routine health checks and pre-operative screening.
