Four readings are taken across two points in the day, the sugar in the blood and the sugar in the urine, first before eating and again two hours after lunch. Pairing the urine with the blood shows the level at which sugar begins to spill over into the urine, and that level differs from one person to another.
Doctors order it for the assessment of newly detected diabetes, for follow-up when readings have been fluctuating, and where the urine has tested positive for sugar earlier.
