It covers the same ground as the check done before larger surgery: red cells, white cells and platelets, examined on a slide, together with your blood group. Even a short procedure goes better when the surgeon knows beforehand that you are not anaemic, that your clotting cells are adequate and that no infection is already running.
Doctors order it before minor operations such as suturing, abscess drainage, biopsies and other day-care procedures.
