HBs Ag shows a current hepatitis B infection, the HCV portion picks up antibodies against hepatitis C, and the HIV portion covers both HIV-1 and HIV-2. These infections spread through blood and body fluids, which is why they are usually checked together. Reactive results go on for confirmatory testing.
Doctors order it for pre-operative screening, before dialysis, after a needle-stick injury, and for blood or organ donors.
