Fever that has gone on for several days is often typhoid or malaria, and this panel looks for both from a single blood draw. The Widal part measures how strongly the blood reacts to typhoid and paratyphoid bacteria, reported as a titre, which is a dilution figure where a higher number means a stronger reaction. The malaria part checks for the two parasite species that cause most cases in India.
Doctors order it for fever lasting more than three or four days, fever with chills and shivering, fever with headache and stomach upset, or fever that settles and then comes back.
